Arch Chemicals to offer Daicel polyols in Americas

NORWALK, CT, Dec. 11 -- Specialty chemical maker Arch Chemicals Inc. has formed an alliance with Japan's Daicel Chemical Industries Inc. to market Daicel's polycaprolactone and polycarbonate polyols in North and South America.

The products will be sold under the Arch trade names of Poly-T and Poly-CD.

The arrangement expands Arch's growing urethanes polyol product line, according to Bob Koroshetz, general manager of Performance Urethanes for Arch Chemicals.

Polycaprolactone and polycarbonate polyols are used in high-end coating, adhesive and elastomer applications such as fabric coatings, contact and hot-melt adhesives, microcellular shoe soles, and potting compounds.

Based in Tokyo and Osaka, Daicel Chemical Industries, Ltd. has annual revenues of $2 billion. Its major products include cellulose acetate, acetate tow, acetic acid and its derivatives, caprolactone derivatives and other high-performance chemicals, intermediates for pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals, and inflators for automobile airbag systems.
