SpecialChem / Jun 23, 2011

Dr. Michael Okoroafor, H.J. Heinz Company, will deliver the keynote address at the BioPlastek 2011 Forum on June 27, 2011 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. The presentation will focus on the use of Coca-Cola's PlantBottle™ packaging technology and Okoroafor's vision for the future of sustainable packaging. Other senior executives from The Coca-Cola Company and H.J. Heinz Company will be attending the BioPlastek 2011 Forum, which runs June 27 - 29, 2011.

In February 2011, The Coca-Cola Company and H.J. Heinz Company announced a strategic partnership that enables Heinz to produce its ketchup bottles using Coca-Cola's breakthrough PlantBottle™ packaging. The PET plastic bottles are made partially from plants and have a lower reliance on non-renewable resources compared with traditional PET plastic bottles.

The inaugural BioPlastek Forum will host over 40 top-level industry, brand owner, processor, academic and government leaders from the bioplastics value chain to present insightful analyses of where their industry is today, where it will be tomorrow and why. Dr. Michael Okoroafor, Heinz's VP, Packaging R&D & Innovation will present the keynote presentation at the BioPlastek 2011 Forum. Entitled "Leveraging Creative Biobased Packaging to Drive Brand Differentiation," Okoroafor will discuss reasons behind the switch to PlantBottle™ packaging, other potential packaging applications envisioned for plant-based PET and what the market is likely to see next.

At the BioPlastek 2011 Forum's welcoming reception on June 27 and luncheon on June 28, co-hosted by Coca-Cola and H.J. Heinz, attendees will have the opportunity to use the new plant-based bottles both in food preparation and beverage refreshment.
