Dow Europe boosts price for polystyrene

Published on 2002-12-06. Author : SpecialChem
HORGEN, SWITZERLAND, Dec. 6 -- Dow Europe GmbH has announced a price increase for all grades of its STYRON polystyrene resins. Beginning Dec. 9, Dow Europe polystyrene prices will rise by 100 Euro per metric ton for all monthly business.

Effective across the European region, this price increase applies to Dow's line of STYRON high-impact polystyrene resins, all general-purpose polystyrene, and STYRON A-TECH advanced technology polystyrene.

“Demand for polystyrene has recovered considerably during the course of this year and although prices have moved up, increased feedstock costs have kept margins at unacceptable levels,” said Brett Simpson, product marketing manager for Dow STYRON in Europe. “Combined with uncertainties related to the current Middle East situation which suggest an industry vulnerability to additional feedstock increases in the future, we must act now to provide some stability to our business and return margins to more sustainable levels.”

Dow is claimed to be the largest global PS maker with approximately 2.1 million metric tons.
