Dow to increase prices for polystyrene resins

SpecialChem / Dec 18, 2002
MIDLAND, MI, Dec. 18 -- Dow Plastics has announced a price increase for Styron polystyrene resins and Styron A-Tech advanced polystyrene resins in North America.

Effective Jan. 1, the price for all general-purpose, impact-modified, ignition-resistant and styrenic alloy grades will increase US $0.03/lb ($0.095/kg CDN).

"Although demand for polystyrene has been strong throughout 2002 and prices have moved up considerably, increased feedstock costs have kept our margins at unacceptable levels," said Jeff Denton, senior product marketing manager for North American polystyrene. "Combined with uncertainties related to the current geopolitical situation, which suggests industry vulnerability to additional feedstock increases, we must act now to provide some stability to our business."
