INEOS Styrenics Launches Post Consumer Recycled Polystyrene for Injection Molding Applications

SpecialChem / Jun 2, 2011

CHANNAHON, IL -- INEOS Styrenics has announced the introduction of a new line of polystyrene products containing post consumer recycled polystyrene in North America. The new product launch includes two products each with 25% post consumer recycle content supplied by NextLife™. The new grades of polystyrene are FDA-approved for food contact and designed for injection molding applications requiring consistent resin properties. The resins also process the same as 100% virgin polystyrene. The target applications include injection molded opaque articles, such as cutlery, housewares, office accessories and appliance components.

"With this product line introduction, we are challenging the paradigm that polystyrene is not recyclable," said Ed Barnes, VP - North American Polymers. "It is extremely important for us to demonstrate the value of polystyrene as a sustainable resin choice for our customers." Through the launch of grades containing recycled polystyrene we hope more polystyrene materials will be recovered through community recycling initiatives and converted into useful products. The launch of the PCR grades demonstrates the commitment of INEOS Styrenics to being an industry leading and customer focused organization, delivering consistently innovative, high quality products and services.
