The Profine Group, located in Troisdorf/Germany and one of the world's leading manufacturers of window profiles, has bought another extrusion line from KraussMaffei Berstorff. The follow-on order includes seven standalone KMD 63 K/P coextruders. These conical twin-screw extruders will be used with extruders already installed in the company's plants in Berlin and Pirmasens to configure upgraded production solutions.
Flexible and space-saving coextrusion models for many different applications

"The coextruders can be docked onto different coextrusion dies with absolutely no adaptation effort; they can be shifted by hand in any direction," he adds.
Processing lower-cost materials
The Profine Group like many profile manufacturers is facing increasing demands for great flexibility in processing low-cost materials. To help processors meet this challenge, KraussMaffei Berstorff offers a special screw concept that is engineered to be equally effective at processing virgin PVC and also at mixing recyclates and highly filled formulations. When KraussMaffei Berstorff set about redesigning its conical models, company engineers paid special attention to boosting pressure stability and process flexibility.
Recyclate is increasingly being used to form the core layers of window profiles in order to reduce resource consumption and costs. Extruders from the conical series, with their extremely high wear resistance due to special molybdenum welding techniques, are optimally suited for processing recyclates. KraussMaffei Berstorff coextruders can be supplied either with their own C5 control or with the control integrated in the main extruder. In the latter case, both extruders are controlled from a central operator panel. Other advantages of these coextrusion solutions include motorized adjustment, easy handling and the fact that the metering system and the hopper can be swung aside.
Piggyback version with 32D profile extruder for high-performance extrusion
In 2010, KraussMaffei Berstorff supplied Profine with a first extruder combination as a piggybacked solution, consisting of a KMD 114-32/P parallel twin-screw extruder combined with two conical KMD 63 K/P coextruders. The piggybacked combination, with a total output of 700-800 kg/h, is an example of high-performance extrusion of window profiles using core technology.
