Solegear Bioplastics Inc., an award-winning designer, producer and distributor of high-performance bioplastics and biocomposites, has announced that it has received positive written opinions regarding two of its international patent applications related to its Polysole® bioplastic. These patent applications form foundational elements of Solegear's technology portfolio and pave the way for continued intellectual property development and customer acquisition at the Company.
The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), acting as the International Searching Authority, provided written opinions indicating that the Solegear patent applications contain claims that are "novel and inventive". While these opinions are not binding on national patent offices, they do provide an initial idea of what the patentable claim scope might be.
"Given Solegear's commitment to developing a robust, proprietary intellectual property position, we are very pleased to receive this news," said Toby Reid, Solegear Founder & CEO. "These patent applications protect key components of our technology platform, and support our organizational commitment to scientific development and innovation. Having a positive opinion from the International Searching Authority gives us and our partners extra confidence in our technical capabilities and continuing commercial development plans."
These patents concern formulations for the Company's Polysole® bioplastics. The patent applications were recently published and are referred to by their numbers: WO2011/050479 and WO2011/050480. These are the first two of several patents that the Company expects to add to its intellectual property portfolio.
