Polycarbonates are amongst the most extensively used engineering thermoplastics. Polycarbonates are hard, strong, tough and transparent, showing good resistance to alcohols and, dilute acids. They can withstand temperatures as high as 140°C and as low as -20°C. Polycarbonates display poor resistance to dilute alkalis and aromatic and to halogenated hydrocarbons. Some common applications of polycarbonates include automotive & transport (polycarbonate sheets), electrical & electronics, packaging, etc.
