GUR® UHMW-PE

GUR® UHMW-PE by Celanese is a low-pressure, ziegler-type catalyst, polyethylene resin with a high environmental stress cracking resistance. It is a high viscosity polymer with a much higher molecular weight and very high degree of polymerization than standard polyethylene (PE). It possesses both the highest sliding abrasion resistance and highest notched impact strength of any commercial plastic.
  • It offers excellent wear- & impact resistance, non-sticking & self-lubricating properties, and excellent mechanical characteristics, even in cryogenic conditions.
  • It exhibits high energy absorption capacity at high stress rate, low coefficient of friction and provides very high chemical resistance to acids, alkalis & corrosive gases.
  • It generally cannot be processed by the common methods used for ordinary thermoplastics.
  • Compression molding and ram extrusion (sheet & profile) processes are key to generating the high pressures needed to fuse UHMW-PE particles together. Then they typically are used to form the material into stock shapes or profiles with subsequent machining as necessary.
  • It is used in battery separators, carbon block filtration, lead acid batteries, lithium-ion batteries, orthopedic implants and porous filtration.
  • Because of its good frictional properties, major application areas of GUR® UHMW-PE include bulk material handling, food & beverage machinery, chemical, mining & mineral processing equipment, recreational equipment and transportation.
  • It can also be gel processed for synthetic paper or high-strength fiber applications.
  • The free sintering process can be used to produce porous parts such as filters, wicking parts, and fluid delivery components.
