KURARAY POVAL™ 5-88 S2 by Kuraray is a partially hydrolyzed, water soluble polyvinyl alcohol. Used as a protective colloid for emulsion polymerization, binder and raw material for PVOH films. It is manufactured by alcoholysis of polyvinyl acetate. Also used as a binder in sizes due to its good penetration capacity, cohesion and good adhesion to fibers, fillers and pigments. Shows low electrostatic charging and redissolving capacity of the dried film in water. Possesses a uniform chemical structure, good bonding strength and pigment binding capacity. It influences the rheology of polymer emulsions including particle size distribution, viscosity, stability to stirring, freeze/ thaw stability, pigment compatibility and electrolyte stability. KURARAY POVAL™ 5-88 S2 has a shelf life of 12 months.
