Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT) is a semi-crystalline polymer combining excellent mechanical and electrical properties with robust chemical resistance.

Polybutylene Terephthalate is a semi-crystalline engineering-grade thermoplastic, which is part of the polyester family of resins. It provides innovative solutions that save weight and decrease costs and offers fast crystallization. PBT offers good electrical properties and good mechanical properties including high strength, rigidity, and toughness and chemical resistance to a wide range of chemicals, solvents, oils and greases.

Polybutylene Terephthalate has excellent dimensional stability, low moisture absorption, and powerful insulation resistance. Unfilled PBT grades have a wide range of melt viscosities to provide processing latitude in injection molding and in extrusion techniques ranging from melt-blowing of PBT fibers to production of PBT rod and slab, fiber optic buffer tubes or brake cable liners. Reinforced PBT grades applications include automotive ignition and electrical system parts; electrical and electronic connectors and sockets; switches, bobbins and motor housings and insulation; appliance housings, handles and bases. Flame-retardant PBT and lubricated PBT versions are also available in both unreinforced and reinforced grades. The broad use of PBT is also shown by the numerous regulatory approvals held by various grades. These include VDE or UL-approvals for the E/E market or FDA approval for the nutrition and medical market.
