High density material for disc golf

SpecialChem / Feb 17, 2010

Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc, or Frisbee®. The sport was formalized in the 1970's, and the object of the game is to throw a flying disk into a basket or at a target. The American company Gateway Disc Sports, a supplier of high performance golf discs and accessories, has developed a new product line by using a high density thermoplastic material supplied by the American compounder RTP Company. In fact RTP Company has formulated a thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) compound that reached a density of 2.0. This new material, namely RTP 2800 B series has high surface abrasion and impact properties, that allow to prolong the durability of discs during use while its thermoplastic elastomer nature provides necessary flexibility in all weather conditions i.e. hot, cold, rainy or dry.
