Published on 2014-08-04. Author : SpecialChem

GKN Aerospace has been selected by AirAsia to supply the complete suite of cockpit transparencies for the airline's new A320 fleet. AirAsia is the operator of one of the largest fleets of A320 aircraft in the region.

Providing AirAsia with a combination of the high performance glass front windshields and light weight acrylic side windows, this suite of transparencies offers A320 operators such as AirAsia both in-service weight savings and fleet performance improvements.

Manufacturing of transparencies for this USD multi-million contract is taking place at the company's specialist facilities in Luton and Kings Norton, UK, with deliveries already underway to AirAsia.

Ron Kato, Vice President and Managing Director, Special Products Group, GKN Aerospace commented: "This contract win, from an airline that is acknowledged as the best low-cost operator in Asia with the most efficient operation in the region, is a clear indication of the performance of our transparencies in-service and the efficiency of our 24-7 aftermarket service. We look forward to working with AirAsia and its affiliates in the coming years."

GKN Aerospace supplies directly to a growing number of airlines including Easyjet and American Airlines. Cockpit windows, passenger cabin windows and wingtip lenses are all the reliable, low-risk products of choice for OEM's and airlines around the world, exceeding industry performance benchmarks. The company's CrystalVue II™ coated passenger cabin windows are standard fit on the entire Boeing commercial aircraft fleet and on much of the Airbus fleet. The company supplies transparencies for aircraft in all market segments — from supersonic military applications such as the F-35 Lightning II (JSF) canopy, to large-size, state-of-the-art passenger aircraft windows for the Boeing 787, A350XWB and the Bombardier Global 7000 and Global 8000 ultra-long range business jets.
