RAMPF & First COMPOSITES at Composites EU: To Show Expertise in Mold & Tool Construction

Published on 2014-08-29. Author : SpecialChem

GRAFENBERG -- Combined expertise in model, mold, and tool construction — all on show at the stand that RAMPF Tooling Solutions and First COMPOSITES (1C) will be sharing at Composites Europe 2014 in Düsseldorf from October 7 to 9 (Hall 8a, Stand C20/C26). Also on display: RAKU-TOOL® CP-6131, the new RAMPF Tooling Solutions high-temperature paste.

Expectations are high ahead of an exciting debut by RAMPF Tooling Solutions, among the leading developers and producers of materials based on polyurethane and epoxy for model, mold, and tool construction, and First COMPOSITES (1C), manufacturers of carbon-based and other composite-structure components. For the first time, the companies will be making a joint appearance at the Composites Europe trade fair.

The decision to appear together comes as a result of successful collaboration on the use of epoxy resins in composite materials. "The combination of our materials and the application-based expertise of First COMPOSITES has produced outstanding application results," defines Jochen Reiff, Head of Sales and Marketing at RAMPF Tooling Solutions, the advantages of this cooperation. "The additional factor of both companies’ extensive consultancy expertise ensures unparalleled added value for our customers," says Dirk Krämer, Managing Director at First COMPOSITES.

RAMPF follows the contour with utmost precision

Composites Europe 2014 will also feature another premiere — that of the new RAKU-TOOL® Close Contour Paste CP-6131 from RAMPF Tooling Solutions. The material has been used in a prepreg lay-up tool for producing motor hoods, which will be exhibited at the stand. After post-curing, the paste has a temperature resistance of up to 170°C, making it possible to produce prepreg parts with high-quality mechanical properties.

As well as the time saved by using the new paste for direct tooling (no original model is needed), no sealing for the already seamlessly smooth surfaces is necessary, which can easily be high-gloss polished. Heat is distributed quickly and evenly throughout the tool, and there are next to no limitations in the geometry of the components that can be produced. "We are very pleased to be able to present RAKU-TOOL® CP-6131 to visitors to the trade fair. Currently we are the only suppliers offering such a high-performance high-temperature paste," says Heinz Horbanski, Managing Director at RAMPF Tooling Solutions.

A further highlight that RAMPF Tooling Solutions is exhibiting is a 1:30 scale model of a wind turbine blade. Its lay-up mold was produced using resin infusion and the composite construction process. The RAKU-TOOL® Close Contour Paste CP-6060 used was specifically designed for the production of large models and molds in the wind power, shipbuilding, and automotive industries.

A case study will also be presented on the manufacture of tools for producing functional and driving prototypes (over 100 passenger cells) for the BMWi3 using RAKU-TOOL® Close Contour Casting CC-6506.

High-quality and effective — RAKU-TOOL® liquid systems

Visitors to the trade fair can also find out all about RAKU-TOOL® liquid systems. These high-quality and efficient gelcoat, laminating, infusion, and casting resins are designed for a range of manufacturing uses, construction methods, and other applications — particularly in the field of composites. "RAMPF offers a high-performance standard range that we can quickly adapt to meet technical demands on the market as well as the specific requirements of our customers," says Jochen Reiff.
