A. Schulman at VDI Conf.: Launches ECOTRAN® PPS Compounds for Auto, E&E and Appliances

Published on 2015-03-19. Author : SpecialChem

AKRON, Ohio -- A. Schulman Inc., among the leading international suppliers of high-performance plastic compounds, powders and resins, announces the launch of the ECOTRAN® Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS) compounds at the VDI Plastics in Automotive Engineering conference going on from March 18 and 19 in Mannheim, Germany. A. Schulman exhibits at Stand 5.

A. Schulman has signed an agreement and a strategic partnership with the South Korean polymer producer INITZ for the compounding and marketing of INITZ Co., Ltd.’s ECOTRAN® PPS compounds. A. Schulman will be producing, selling and distributing the ECOTRAN compounds in Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Americas. Through this strategic partnership, INITZ and A. Schulman are committed to become a global leader in PPS with the ECOTRAN® brand.

“ECOTRAN® PPS uniquely offers our customers an excellent alternative to conventional PPS, which has often reached its limits in especially challenging applications”, said Horst Klink, Business Unit Director, Engineering Plastics A. Schulman EMEA. “Thanks to the ability of ECOTRAN® to meet the industry’s halogen free standards, with less outgassing and even further improved flow ability, it will meet demanding applications in markets such as automotive, E&E, appliances, coatings as well as filaments & fibers.”

PPS compounds present outstanding chemical resistance, resistance to under-the-hood temperatures as well as property retention at elevated temperatures. Typical PPS automotive applications include fuel and cooling systems such as flow meters, pump housings and impellers and valves as well as lighting systems such as sockets.

Moreover, PPS compounds are typically used in electric cars’ converters, inverters and engine control units.

In addition, A. Schulman will present:

  • Paint replacement of high-volume plastic parts enabling a single production process and improved cost efficiency.
  • Phthalate-free thermoplastic powder grades for carpet backing.
  • Stone chip resistant coating materials made from tough VOC-free thermoplastic self-adhesive powders.
  • Design freedom: natural grades can be colored using the color concentrates provided by the Masterbatch product family.
