The year 2018 marks the 80th anniversary of the discovery of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) by Dr. Roy Plunkett. This was the first fully fluorinated fluoropolymer and remains one of the most valuable and versatile materials ever invented. In the Chemical Processing Industry, fluoropolymers help protect manufacturing systems against corrosion, minimizing leakages, emissions and maintenance costs while enhancing processing efficiency and product quality. Teflon™ fluoropolymers are virtually inert to the most aggressive organic and inorganic chemicals and solvents over a wide temperature range.

  • Components or liners made from Teflon™ fluoropolymers offer outstanding corrosion resistance, providing a solution that is often more universal and more economical than many exotic metals and alloys.

Corrosion Protection Seminar


A seminar entitled "Managing Corrosion and Fouling with Teflon™ Fluoropolymer Solutions" hosted by Chemours at Achema 2018 explains the advantages of Teflon™ fluoropolymers in solutions for corrosion protection. The seminar focuses on future trends and current fluoropolymer applications in Chemical Process Industry (CPI), current case studies of linings, use of Teflon™ fluoropolymers in heat exchangers to manage corrosion and fouling as well as failure analysis of fluoropolymer components.

Highest Temperature and Chemical Resistance


Numerous grades of Viton™ fluoroelastomers are available which differ in terms of their chemical resistance and mechanical properties so that they can meet requirements for specific applications and processes. With their wide temperature resistance from -30°C to +220°C and their resistance to a wide range of aggressive chemicals, they are suitable for sealing applications in the chemical and general industrial sectors.
