LEVERKUSEN -- Takiron Co. Ltd., a Japanese plastic products manufacturer and long-time customer of Covestro, recently received an award in the 2016 Low Carbon Contest sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment. The purpose of the contest is to promote the development of a low carbon society for the next generation. Awards are given to climate protection programs established by companies, schools and local communities.

The judges said that Takiron's “Lumo Carbo” multiwall sheet was exemplary in this context: used in facades, it acts as a thermal insulator and saves energy. Its high transparency promotes the use of natural sunlight inside buildings instead of artificial lighting.

“We would like to sincerely congratulate our partner on receiving this significant award,” says Kimiyasu Yonemaru, Senior Covestro Representative in Japan. “Glass is usually the material of choice for transparent building facades. However, polycarbonate sheet with its strong impact resistance, thermal insulation and low weight, is also an excellent material for this kind of application.”

Covestro considers the award to this polycarbonate sheet a confirmation of its corporate vision: To make the world a brighter place. “According to the integrated sustainability strategy, Covestro develops products and processes that improve people's lives, protect our planet and create value for customers and partners. Takiron's award-winning product is a perfect example for this,” adds Kimiyasu Yonemaru.
