LUNENBURG, MA --
S&E Specialty Polymers has announced the launch of a new family of
‘Universal TPE’ compounds. These compounds, which come under the company’s
TufFlex™,
TufFill™ and TufPrene™ brands, are specifically designed to survive the harshest environments for
Wire and Cable Industry applications.
TPE to Withstand Harsh Operating Environments
These new compounds represent
S&E’s continued emphasis on R&D, a commitment by the company to work closely with its customers to provide unique compound formulations that actually exceed the performance characteristics of traditional materials.
In the case of these new
‘Universal TPE’ materials,
S&E has created compounds that are a hybrid between TPE-TPO-CPE alloys, combining and highlighting the best property of each component. These compounds do not just match the properties of engineering elastomers, but actually exceed them as well as adding some unique attributes. Additionally, due to an attractive cost structure, they will also set a “new standard” in the industry.

Two of the most popular grades are:
TufFlex™ 2272-6500FR
- Flexible (75A)
- Wide range of operating temperatures (-60C to 105C);
- Oil Res I and II
- High FR resistance (LOI 35%+)
- Good high heat deformation properties
- UV and fungi resistance
TufFlex™ 12-003-75A
- Flexible (75A)
- Wide range of operating temperatures (-70C to 125C)
- Superior physical properties such as 4900 psi tensile strength at break
“We are excited about the possibilities these new compounds bring to the Wire & Cable Industry,” said Duane Shooltz, President and Managing Partner at S&E. “Our customers continue to challenge us with requests for alternative materials that can survive the most difficult operating environments, and we continue to produ
ce new and innovative materials to meet and exceed their needs.”
Transit Authority Approved
In other exciting news, S&E’s TufFill™ 15-058, one of the new ‘TPE’ compounds, has been approved for use by a leading US city’s Transit Authority. This non-halogen material is used in subways and underground tunnels for a wire and cable jacketing application. Features of this compound include:
TufFill™ 15-058
- Non-halogenated specifically designed for Transportation, Industrial and Utility markets.
- Excellent processability (low shear rate, no die-drool)
- Good chemical resistance
