Solving Critical Plastics Adhesion Challenges with Surface Pre-treatment

15 Days left to register

Thursday Oct 3, 2019

Gain full control over bond strength when designing complex plastic parts (automotive, industrial...) by adopting the right surface pre-treatment (flaming, plasma, corona, fluorination…) & introducing adhesive bonding early in your process.

Francis Facon (R&D Consultant, Ex-Faurecia) will help you revamp your methodology for low surface energy materials (Polyolefins, PA, composites…) via practical case studies. Detailed discussion on pre-choice of adhesives, prototype testing, lap shear analysis... will also be done.

Why should you attend?

Using low surface energy materials (Polyolefins, PA…) for manufacturing automotive & industrial parts can help in lowering weight and reducing cost. But, achieving any level of adhesion to these materials is difficult at the best of times. Moreover, computer aided engineering (CAE), otherwise commonly used in part design, is not easy to do on adhesives!

Also, while designing a part, often bonding is considered as a secondary operation, which is a common mistake! Besides, looking to adhesives suppliers for solutions can only provide a short-term fix. Which is why, you need to pay attention while selecting adhesives and opting for the right surface pre-treatment to save your automotive parts from low impact resistance or design failure!

Join the course and:

  • Optimally join plastics (PE, PP, PA6, PA66…) & composites (mineral filled, fiber reinforced…) with better comprehension of adhesive bonding on low energy materials.

  • Select appropriate adhesives in advance & define your own bonding specifications with expert help rather than depending on adhesive suppliers for solutions.

  • Solve plastics adhesion issues by opting for the right pre-surface treatment (flaming, plasma, corona, fluorination…) to bond different components.

  • Improve part performance (automotive, industrial...) by revamping your part design methodology.

  • Get expert tips for troubleshooting techniques including flaming rules, cleaning, lap shear analysis and more….
