A cordless phone with low carbon footprint

SpecialChem / Feb 17, 2010

A bio-based thermoplastic i.e. a poly(lactic acid) (PLA) material has been chosen by Telecom Italia to produce its latest innovative products: the Eco Cordless phones. The new phones designed by MID Product Design Studio combine an innovative pebble-shaped design together with the low carbon benefits of PLA. Their features include backlight display, handfree, an integrated backlight keypad and polyphonic ringtones. Their shell is injection molded by the Italian firm Femto Engineering S.r.l. by using an Ingeoâ„¢ PLA grade from NatureWorks LLC, while the necessary toughness is provided by the use of an impact modifier masterbatch supplied by Sukano Products Ltd. of Switzerland.
