A collaborative research project between the Italian ATR Group and the American materials producer Hunstmann Advanced Materials has allowed to develop an advanced resin transfer molding system that has been used to produce the air box of the Ferrari F430 Challenge high performance sports car. In fact this air box, which is a part of the air intake system, is made using an ATR RTM process from a new low viscosity epoxy resin system developed for the project i.e. XB 3583/Aradur 3486/LMB 6432. Such a air box weighs 2.4 kg i.e. twice as less than conventional aluminum parts.
