Almost 100% recyclable automotive seat

SpecialChem / Feb 2, 2010

The American automotive interior supplier Johnson Control Inc. has developed an innovative eco-friendly seat for standard and hybrid vehicles that is nearly 100% recyclable. This new seat, available under the trade name Synergy Seat, provides up to 27% mass reduction over current seating systems and requires less foam than conventional seats while being very comfortable. Two versions of structure are available: an all-steel version that is 32% lighter than conventional systems and an aluminum-steel version, specially designed for hybrid vehicles, which is 40% lighter. The foam is made from environmentally friendly polyurethane (PUR) and the injected molded shell, side shields and back panels are all made from polypropylene (PP).
