K2013 Review: Our Selection of Breakthrough Materials and Designs

Once again the Kunststoffe International Exhibition, which took place in Düsseldorf, Germany, was an undisputed success for the Plastics & Rubber Industry. With 218,000 trade visitors the famous K Fair kept on moving polymer professionals from all over the world. The number of visitors is very close to the K2010 event, which saw 220,000 visitors walking through the 19 exhibition halls of the Messe Düsseldorf.

As stated by Joschka Fischer, the former German Foreign Minister, during the K opening event, Plastics already had in the past and will still have in the future a major role to play in taking technological leaps for a more sustainable world. This is exactly what the 3,200 international K2013 exhibitors demonstrated between October 16th and October 23rd, 2013, on the Messe Düsseldorf ground floor.

Bayer MaterialScience took the opportunity of the K Fair to demonstrate how diverse the polycarbonate (PC) uses can be. By taking the current most important challenges of tomorrow, the leading PC manufacturer exhibited multiple applications and design concepts where its famous Makrolon® resin is a key building block. Population ageing and even more mobile lifestyles respectively mean new needs on medical devices and further miniaturized and lightweight electronic devices.
