New bio-based plastic bottle for soda

SpecialChem / Dec 8, 2009

The American company Coca-Cola has introduced a new bio-based plastic bottle on the American market. This new bottle, namely “Plant-Bottle” is made from 30% renewable resource based material stemming from sugar cane and molasses and from conventional poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) material. Such bio-based plastic bottles weigh the same as standard PET bottles used by Coca-Cola since 2007 i.e. 24g but they allow to reduce carbon emissions by 25%. Their manufacturing process is almost similar to that of conventional PET bottles. These new bottles will be used for sparkling beverage brands in the US market and for vitamin waters.
