The annual yachting race “Tour de France à la Voile” that is a race around the coast of France is unique in that every team uses the same boat, so that their sailing skills are judged above all else. Since the first race in 1978, only six monotype boats have been used. The new boat that will replace the famous “Farr 30” from the “Tour de France à la Voile 2011” will be launched in March 2010. It has been designed by Joubert-Nivelt Design and built by the boat yard Archambault. This new boat, namely M34, is 10.34 meter long and 2.98 meter wide. It is made from an epoxy resin system Corecell, M-Foam core and E-glass carbon/glass fabric especially made for this project. All these material have been supplied by SP High Modulus, the marine business of Gurit. Archambault has also worked with Aster Composite Co. on the hull and deck process as well as with Isotop on the carbon/epoxy rudder, keel and bowsprit. Each M34 boat costs 120.000 euros.
