NVH Reduction in Automotives: Strategies to Use

Edward M. Petrie – Dec 6, 2016

NVH ReductionGovernment laws and regulations are among the several factors which contribute to the growth of the Global Automotive NVH Materials market. NHV regulations to date have addressed noise from the device to the environment (including the general populace).

Countries such as those in the EU have stringent laws in place to ensure the minimum negative impact of automobile, off-highway, and snowmobile noise on the environment.

The application of passive damping technology using viscoelastic polymeric materials is playing a significant part in the design of new automobiles. There are various forms of viscoelastic damping systems that can be classified into two main types::

  • Extensional Layer
  • Constrained Layer

The automotive industry has traditionally the most need for damping treatments. This article will review how certain polymeric materials have created a solution and niche market for NVH reduction.
