PMP (Polymethylpentene)
Polymethylpentene (PMP) is a transparent and expensive thermoplastic polymer. It offers good chemical resistance but gets easily attacked by oxidizing agents and chlorinated solvents. It has high thermal resistance, low density, good resistance to hydrolysis but shows poor resistance to UV light which calls for the addition of other additives like UV absorbers. Polymethylpentene (PMP) has a lower impact strength when compared to other polyolefins. Its excellent electrical insulation makes it ideal for wire & cables and electrical & electronic applications. Other areas where PMP is of use are healthcare, tubes and pipes, kitchenware, labware, packaging, etc.
