ELIX Polymers complete LCA for its productsELIX has completed an LCA of its production based on ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 (Cradle-to-Gate analysis), taking into account transportation to customers and including direct emissions (Scope 1) and indirect emissions (Scope 2 and Scope 3).

Assessing Environmental Impact of Recycled Products

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is an internationally standardized methodology for assessing environmental impacts associated with all the stages of a product’s life cycle. This methodology permits the scientific comparison of different products, the same products produced in different areas and differences in recycling options.

ELIX Polymers has undertaken a full LCA validated by the Anthesis group to investigate the environmental performance of its more sustainable E-LOOP products and to compare it with fossil-based polymers.

Anthesis is a global sustainability firm which supports cities, companies, and other organizations in defining their sustainability strategies and measuring and improving their environmental impacts.

This is part of the responsible innovation services that ELIX Polymers offers its customers. Further technical support is possible by analyzing customer applications from the environmental perspective to choose the right product with best material properties for the necessary requirements and the lowest possible carbon footprint.

The LCA shows that mechanically and chemically recycled products can considerably reduce the environmental impact of the final product and can support ELIX customers in achieving their sustainability goals. It will also help ELIX Polymers achieve its objective of ensuring that 25% of its product portfolio will provide a sustainable advantage by 2025.

More and more OEMs from different industry segments are asking for LCA values to compare different polymers with each other in order to reduce their environmental impacts, as consumers are demanding sustainable products and new regulations must be met.
