LOTTE Chemical Develops Eco-friendly Halogen-free Flame-retardant PP Sheets LOTTE Chemical developed new eco-friendly halogen-free flame-retardant PP and got Class A value in ASTM E84 test which is the standard of building interior materials in North America and Middle East area.

Effectively Suppress Fire Spread and Toxic Smoke Under a Fire Situation

ASTM E84 test is the standard for the burning characteristics of the building materials which is not only related with American building regulation (International Building Code, IBC 803.11). but also strictly requested for building interior materials in America, Canada and Middle East region.

This test analyzes FSI (Flame Spread Index) and SDI (Smoke Developed Index) using the specific instrument called Steiner Tunnel, and classifies 3 levels of A, B and C. Among them, A class represents the best flame-retardant property. LOTTE chemical produced a prototype of interior board from the local company in Middle East region, and evaluated ASTM E84 test from the authorized institution.

The test results showed that FSI value was 10 (Class A < 25) and SDI value was 60 (Class A < 450). According to the results of the test, LOTTE’s new flame-retardant PP got Class A position, which means that LOTTE’s material effectively suppress a fire spread and toxic smoke under a fire situation. Furthermore, LOTTE’s new flame-retardant PP meets the standard of halogen free criteria made by regulation of IEC61249-2-21, which means this material is not harmful compared with general flame-retardant material. And It has advantage in terms of recyclable performance.

LOTTE Chemical said, “We will expand our business field to building interior material’s market in America, Canada and Middle East region through this newly developed material.
