Varcum® 29174 by Sumitomo Bakelite is an unmodified, one-step, powdered phenolic resin. It is soluble in esters, ketones and lower alcohols. Exhibits smooth, soft braking action and good pedal feel. Provides a very slight softening action under elevated temperatures and retains frictional properties. The rate of cure can be increased by adding hexamethylenetetramine. Varcum® 29174 is designed for passenger car brake linings and car clutch discs.
