KURARAY POVAL™ 9-88 by Kuraray is a water soluble, partially hydrolyzed, standard type polyvinyl alcohol. Used as a protective colloid for emulsion polymerization, binder and raw material for PVOH films. Also used as a binder in sizes due to its good penetration capacity, cohesion and good adhesion to fibers, fillers and pigments. It is manufactured by alcoholysis of polyvinyl acetate. Possesses a uniform chemical structure, good bonding strength and pigment binding capacity. It influences the rheology of polymer emulsions including particle size distribution, viscosity, stability to stirring, freeze/ thaw stability, pigment compatibility and electrolyte stability. KURARAY POVAL™ 9-88 has a shelf life of 12 months. Shows low electrostatic charging and redissolving capacity of the dried film in water.
