The annoucement of the competition issued by the Comune di Milano [Municipality of Milan] for the lighting of the town in occasion of next Christmas holidays dates back to a few days ago. The initiative repeats the pilot scheme of last year, but with an evident qualitative leap. The aim is to encourage the realisation of light works that supplement the existing installation projects and change the night image of the town as well. In the recent years, indeed, Christmas decorations in Milan have been ripetitive and not very original in comparison with the international scene. That's why this year it has been decided to give the designers a theme they have to develop, inspired to the art works of architects and craftsmen like Giuseppe Sommaruga and Alessandro Mazzucotelli who well represent the Milanese Art Nouveau of early twentieth-century.
As regards the public parks, will be considered the projects aimed at lighting the tree-lined paths and the realisation of light sculptures able to turn the parks into public places of attraction.
