45 Days left to register

Wednesday Jul 10, 2019

Meet today’s SPF / UVA regulatory requirements faster by optimizing your testing strategy (avoid running expensive tests until it is really needed and interpret test results better).

Julian Hewitt will show you how to support formulation work & UVA / SPF claims for your targeted markets (EU, US, Japan), right test at the right time (in-vitro or in-vivo) & how to best adapt your protocol (substrate type, application technique…).

Why should you attend?

Suncare market is highly regulated with requirements that are rigorously enforced than a few years ago. Making things even more complex, there is a lack of global harmonization of test protocols labeling criteria, no established protocol for in-vitro SPF testing and in-vivo SPF tests are expensive! Join this course and:

  1. Meet UVA/SPF regulatory requirements easily by running the right tests (in-vitro or in-vivo, ISO 24444, ISO 24442, FDA 2011...) for your targeted markets

  2. Reduce time & money spent on in-vivo tests at product development stage by gaining in-depth knowledge about in-vivo test principles, protocols…

  3. Optimize your test protocols by understanding how to build upon test results that are not as expected

Course Outline

The following sections will be covered during this session:

  1. Summary of performance measures for sun protection products

  2. In-vivo SPF and UVA testing
    • Basic Principles
    • Comparison of different in-vivo SPF test protocols (ISO 24444, ISO 24442, FDA 2011...)

  3. In-vitro SPF and UVA testing
    • ISO 24443 procedure
    • FDA Final Rule of 2011
    • Critical Wavelength Test Parameters

  4. Advantages and disadvantages of in-vivo and in-vitro testing

  5. Global regulatory requirements – what tests are required and/or accepted in different countries / regions

  6. Optimizing your test protocols - questions to consider when test results do not match expectations: What should I do, when my formulation:
    • fails to meet my SPF target?
    • meets my SPF target, but fails the UVA / broad spectrum test?
    • meets my SPF target when tested in-vitro, but fails the in-vivo test?
    • meets SPF and UVA targets on initial screening, but now fails the final in-vitro UVAPF test (ISO 24443)?

  7. 30 mins Q&A session- interact directly with Julian!

EXCELLENT ! It covered all areas of in-vitro and in-vivo testing as well as tests performed in the EU and the US

Lisa Z. , from Alcon Laboratories, Inc.

Excellent overview of the tests available for testing spf and uvapf.

Karahasanovic S. , from kanebo cosmetics paris office

It was good to understand the reasoning and differences behind all the testing that has to be completed for a SPF product. No one has been able to explain it to me that clearly before, I felt like I gained a really good understanding of the testing. I was able to learn the differences between the UVA and UVB testing and how the vary from country to country. This gave me a better understanding of why we have to double up on tests for global brands.

Alyssa S. , from Aveda Corporation

The global regulatory testing requirements chart is a great tool - this will be very useful!
