With the POLYDET® PowerStar Plus composite material, OPTIPLAN will present a high-performance material for lightweight design of vehicle bodies at the trade fair IAA Commercial Vehicles 2018 (hall 27, stand E29). Used as inner and outer cover layer of the side panels, the high-tech composite can help to achieve the essential goals of modern, energy-efficient logistics: a reduced vehicle weight and thus higher payload as well as lower fuel consumption and pollutant emission – and this with an extremely lightweight, stable, durable and visually attractive material.

Fiber-reinforced Plastic for Panels


The high utility of the fiber-reinforced plastic is particularly obvious when used in the bodies of transport vehicles in delivery traffic. The material is extremely impact resistant and robust despite its very low weight. This resistance towards heavy mechanical loads pays off especially in the harsh everyday delivery routine characterized by constant loading and unloading: even with strong impact loads – for example, due to the sliding cargo – the cover layers are not damaged. In other words: lightweight, fiber-reinforced plastic in sandwich composite with only 0.7 mm thickness provides for very stable and solid side panels. A long service life of the vehicle body and a high value conservation of the entire vehicle are thus guaranteed.

High-gloss Appearance in Every Color Shade


Furthermore, the long-lasting, attractive appearance of POLYDET® PowerStar Plus is an essential material nature.
  • Only high quality fine fabrics are used for the composite product made of glass fibers and resin so that the material has a high-gloss, non-porous surface aesthetics. 
  • The surface is finished with a sealing gelcoat protecting the surface from UV irradiation. 
  • In addition, the end customers can choose any colors that match their specific corporate design and appearance in RAL, NCS and individual colors. 
  • A big advantage: since the coloring already takes place during the production process and is directly integrated into the material, a subsequent coating is not needed. 
  • Furthermore, the color is permanently resistant: it cannot be flaked off either by impacts or by the corrosion excluded in fiber-reinforced plastics. 

Transported Goods Safely Protected


  • Designing of the side panel with only one plastic web in length and height provides the tightness of the vehicle body and efficient processing processes. 
  • The panel remains without impacts both inside and outside as is often the case with the use of aluminum or steel when the panel is split into segments. 
  • The single web solution ensures that moisture does not enter the interior of the vehicle body. 
  • As a result, the transported goods are not damaged in dry cargo transport and all hygiene criteria are met when transporting in food transport.
